Psalm 37 speaks to our hearts about the promises and assurances of a Father who knows we’re going to go through tough times. If you read this Psalm you cannot miss the promises God gives to His people during these strange days.
Don’t fret!
Don’t worry, get annoyed, get irritated or be vexed! The Lord is telling us to look Him and to focus on Him. During this time don’t fret, look to the Cross and the finished work of Jesus, remember what He has done for you and who you are in Him.
Trust in the Lord and do good.
When times are tough we must trust in the Lord. Our faith is tested when we are confronted with trials. Remember that the measure of faith is the extent of your JOY in trials. Trust in the Lord and do good. You may wonder what good you can do being stuck at home – do good to those around you – call your parents, tell your family how much you love them, make tea and coffee, help around the house, be cheerful, bring joy, call a friend – the Lord gives a promise here. If we trust in Him and do good we will remain in the land and we will be fed.
Doing good also means sharing the Gospel with as many as you can. In this time when many are thinking about life and death, remember that you have the answer. You have a relationship with Jesus Christ and as a born-again believer you have been given the gift of eternal life and you need to share this with others. Doing good can be as simple as speaking to those people in your family who have ignored or rejected Jesus about what will happen when this life ends. We are all called to evangelize. Use this time to share the Gospel as far and as wide as you can. Don’t forget to share the Good News with those closest to you – you have been placed where you are for a reason!
Delight in the Lord!
This is the time to delight in the Lord for who He is. We don’t simply take delight when prayers are answered. We don’t delight in the Lord because of what he can do, we delight in the Lord because of who He is. This is not the time for doom-and-gloom, this is the time for joy! Delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord
When we commit our way to the Lord, the promise is that He will bring it to pass. We are called to go first to the Lord, to be guided and led by the Holy Spirit and then to commit as we are led. Let nothing we do start without the Lord.
Rest in the Lord.
God has ordained this time in history for us to learn how to rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. We must trust that our sovereign Lord, the one who holds the world in the palm of His hand, uses all things for good, for His glory. God is not confused or surprised by what is happening in the world. God is sovereign and rules over all. As we wait patiently let us remember who our God is.
Cease from Anger
This is a time for prayer and to draw close to the Lord. This is a time to delight in Him and to trust in Him. This is a time to rest in Him and to wait patiently for Him. Do not allow anger to creep in. Cease from anger, turn again to Jesus. As you remember the Saviour remember His humility and be humble.
Bless you today in Jesus name.
Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
